The short answer

Tap with four audible warm-up beats, then continue eight times. Friday moves the continuation halfway between the beats. The original calibrates from your warm-up taps, so a fixed-reference training result can differ.

How to complete the rhythm round

  1. Tap the start control with sound enabled. Check media volume and the output device.
  2. Tap along with the four audible warm-up beats in the original.
  3. Continue for eight taps after the loud reference ends. Use the play area or Space on a keyboard.
  4. Keep the game visible and use one input method for the full round.

The silent continuation is intentional. Hearing no sound after the lead-in does not itself mean the game has failed. Use the sound checks if the audible warm-up is also silent.

Turn BPM into spacing

One beat lasts 60,000 ÷ BPM milliseconds. At 100 BPM the period is 600 ms; at 120 BPM it is 500 ms. Normal continuation preserves the beat, rather than speeding up just because the clicks stop.

Keep a small continuous motion through the silent part. Compare consecutive tap intervals as well as where each tap lands relative to the reference.

At one hundred BPM, on-beats are six hundred milliseconds apart and off-beats fall halfway between100 BPM · one period = 600 ms0 ms600 ms1200 ms300 ms900 msTeal: loud beatOrange: halfway gap
A half-beat phase shift keeps the 600 ms interval. It does not double the tapping rate.

Friday means halfway between beats

The loud warm-up marks the on-beats; quiet ticks indicate the gaps. Friday continuation is shifted by half a period, with the same spacing between taps.

At 100 BPM, relative to a final loud beat at time zero, the nominal Friday tap times are 300, 900, 1,500, 2,100, 2,700, 3,300, 3,900 and 4,500 ms. Normal would continue at 600, 1,200 and so on. Off-beat does not mean twice as many taps.

Early, drifting and uneven are different

  • Constant +100 ms: every tap is late by the same amount; the intervals can still be a steady 600 ms.
  • +20, +40, +60 ms and growing: the taps are gradually falling behind, suggesting a longer interval than the reference.
  • Alternating early and late: average offset can be near zero while the rhythm remains uneven.

Our Tempo tool separates mean offset, average interval and jitter. One low score alone cannot tell which pattern you produced.

Original calibration and independent practice

The original builds a reference from your warm-up tapping. Our training tool schedules a fixed browser reference. A daily answer can give the nominal BPM and phase, but no single absolute timestamp reproduces every player’s calibrated run.

Normal and Friday tolerances in the reviewed original are 60 ms and 85 ms. Device scheduling, input method and Bluetooth audio delay can affect the experience; compare like conditions before treating a changed score as progress or regression. Try the device speaker or wired headphones if the beat feels delayed.

What to change in the next attempt

If intervals shorten, resist rushing through silence. If they vary sharply, focus on even spacing before chasing a smaller constant offset. If Friday is consistently half a beat out, return to the quiet gaps instead of copying the loud-beat phase.

Replay a dated Friday through the original Archive to experience its calibration and cues. Independent exercises are useful repetitions, but their targets and timing reference are not the original daily round.
